February Inspirations:

A huge source of inspiration for me in the month of February was the book “A Thousand Splendid Suns” by Khaled Hosseini. My immense praise and deep reverence for this novel is already expressed in my reading ladder, so on this page I will focus on one quote that I really liked. That quote is “treated friendship the way they treated the sun: its existence undisputed,  its radiance best enjoyed, not beheld directly.” This quote talks about friendship, a concept that is very important to me in my life.  The way the author described friendship hit home for me because that is exactly how I believe the nature of true friendship is; not expressed directly, but always there and appreciated.

March Inspirations:

A huge inspiration for me in the month of March was the symbolic journey. Before and even while doing this exercise I thought it was just a fun activity that was meant to be a BIG bread crumb in our journals. However, after the meaning behind all the symbols was revealed I was left shocked because everything was so accurate. I remember this messed with my head the whole weekend. I just couldn’t get over how my perception on life and death and everything in between could be filtered so accurately  through the symbolic journey.  The key was a symbol that I reflected more than the others. The key was symbolic of how someone perceives themselves and the exact words I used when I described the key were “small and golden”. I loved how it was these two words that popped into my head when I was told to describe the key that was symbolic of self perception because I know that when many people look at me they think that I think lowly of myself or that I have a low self esteem (the exact reason for this I am not sure of…probably the vibe I give off?).  Anyways the truth is that I don’t think myself this way at all. I’m very comfortable with who I am and the reason I use the word small for myself is because see the world around me as a way bigger place than myself and I’m merely just a thread in the quilt or a puzzle piece in the bug picture. The word golden symbolizes the idea that I know that I am important, not to everyone of course but to myself and to those who care for me. To me these words together simply mean that I am aware of my own worth, but I am also aware that I am a simply a gear in the huge complicated machine of the world.  Thoughts like these that were sprouted from the symbolic journey led me to new ideas of things I could write about.

April Inspirations:

April proved to be an incredibly inspirational month for many reasons; the most prominent reason being that April is the month of poetry. Although I’ve always loved reading poetry, I never thought too critically about what I read and I never had tried writing a poem of my own. In April however, I was prompted to do both, and it turned out that I love writing poems even more than I love reading them. A poet that I found to be very inspirational was Shane Koyczan.  The poems that I’ve read of his are spoken word, but more than his writing style, I find the themes and ideas embedded in his poetry to be more inspiring.

During the month of April, I was exposed to another source of inspiration that I was not aware of and that is the river walks.  Although I do often go outdoors to relax when the weather is nice, I never looked at my surroundings and the people around me from a writer’s point of view. I was once again prompted to do something new this month which opened up a whole well of ideas for me.  Not only were the river walks very relaxing and even therapeutic in a sense but they encouraged me to look at the world around me from a writer’s point of view which has proven to be very eye opening.  In conclusion, April has proven to be very inspirational because I tried things I had not done before and the result just makes me want to try more new things.
